One of my many ways of fighting the depressing cold season is to go through my holiday pictures. This exercise, not only reminds me there is hope: summer time will come back, but it also allows me to fly back in time and feel the peaceful warmth of a holiday place like Menorca, Spain
After remembering what a good time I had in Menorca last year, I thought I would share with you my relaxing holiday at the Hotel Vanity Eden Binibeca, in the South of Menorca.
I love to holiday in Menorca not only because I am Spanish but because I sincerely think it is one of the most beautiful beach destinations in Europe. The Balearic Islands are to me, easy to reach paradise islands.
In fact, there are 4 islands: Mallorca is the largest and most populated of all with the capital of the Balearic, Palma de Mallorca. Menorca is the second largest and it is known for its wild and unspoiled beauty and hundreds of pretty coves. Ibiza is renowned for its international clubs but the North of the island offers high quality holiday with white sanded beaches and rough landscapes. Formentera is a tiny piece of land where you can spend the day, have some drinks and enjoy the Caribbean like shores.
Menorca is a UNESCO protected biosphere so it is no surprising to witness such amazing landscapes and unspoiled beaches. I love exploring Menorca so I would definitely recommend to rent a car and make the most of it. There are several car renting companies at the airport, in Mahon. The island is only around 70km of width with one super and modern free high way (East-West).. once you get off this main road… the roads narrow.
After several days trying to choose a hotel, I came across the Viva Hotels website. Some of my close friends told me about it so I was already familiar with their name and reputation (later on, I booked a second holiday with them in Mallorca). Viva Hotels are a Spanish hotel chain specializing in the Balearic islands only so you get that boutique hotel feel.
I know Menorca very well and I have stayed in several hotels as well as rented private villas and apartments over the years. So I can confidently recommend you the Vanity Eden Binibeca & SPA. Located in the South East of the island, only 15kms away from the pretty capital, Mahon. This area is also called the golden triangle
The Hotel Vanity Eden Binibeca is a 4 star Adults only pretty hotel with amazing sea views. Note, this is a place to relax and explore the beauty of the island. Consider this hotel if you are looking for a quiet hotel with sea views as a base to explore the island. Although the hotel is reasonably big, I would not advise you to book it if you are looking for a resort type of hotel with huge facilities and private beach.
I think this hotel is a hidden gem as it offers really good value for money large rooms, super views, nice service and one of the best location.
Yes, it is a 4 star but don’t expect over the top luxury. Some things need a little bit of updating and the food is not the best around (always try to go to local restaurants to try the island’s specialties). But overall, the hotel is pretty, characterful and well amended.
The hotel has 2 nice swimming pools, one with amazing sea views. The pool bar is great, I loved spending my late afternoon there. The hotel itself is nice, very nice but not over luxurious. This adults only hotel also offers a sport and SPA area!
The rooms are very nice. Try to get a high floor sea-view room, the lower floors rooms might over look into a public walking area. All rooms are very large and so is the bed. Inside it’s very modern, flat screen, refurbished new bathrooms, balconies, tea facilities and even a fridge (yes, you read, finally a Spanish hotel with tea and coffee facilities). A nice thing about them is that they offer complimentary mineral water on a daily basis. Rooms are very clean, spacious and light. I don’t think anyone can really fault the rooms, honestly.
I went for the Royal terrace room as a treat (I just got a new job, yey) and it was very affordable. This room had the best sea views and a huge terrace with a Jacuzzi and sun loungers. However, other cheaper rooms also have large terraces with Jacuzzi, just check their website here and make sure you ask for a high floor.
The hotel is located near the picturesque Sant Lluís village where you should try the restaurant Pan y Vino, my very favorite! Even when I stay somewhere else I make sure I go once, at least. In few words: typical local food, high quality products, elegant presentation and charming décor. Not the cheapest, but worth every Euro. But there are so many good restaurants in Menorca you should just follow your instinct.
I love the fact that Sant Lluis is only 15kms from the airport and to Mahon, the capital with its vibrant ambiance. It is also great if you don’t want to rent a car. From the hotel you can walk to many beaches, to the village where you will find coffees and shops and, obviously, enjoy walking paths (if it’s not too hot).
Sant Lluis is certainly one of the best locations of Menorca that is why locals call this area the gold triangle!
I know it is never easy to find one location and/or one hotel when you have never visited Menorca so I hope my experience and great holiday can help you to make the most of your Menorca holiday!
